From acclaimed post-hipster director Andrew Bujalski, comes Beeswax a story of the modern relationships of a lost generation. Jeannie and Lauren are twin sisters and share a house. Jeannie runs a secondhand store. She is afraid that her associate Amanda wants to sue her so she turns to her ex-boyfriend Merrill for advice, as he is just finishing his law degree. Lauren is on the look–out–for a job and for a steady boyfriend.
Beeswax shows young people as they come to terms with taking responsibility and owning their lives.
The Los Angeles Times wrote:
"Bujalski is very much interested in how people -- in his instance, quite intelligent, civilized and articulate twentysomething individuals -- cope with life's everyday challenges, finding naturalistic drama in what may initially seem pedestrian."
The New York Times reported:
At first glance [Beeswax is] a modest, ragged slice of contemporary life... [it] turns out to be a remarkably subtle, even elegant movie. Its leisurely scenes and hesitant, circling conversations conceal both an ingenious comic structure and a rich emotional subtext."
Salon.com opined:
"This warm, graceful and fundamentally optimistic movie snuck up on me, in the best possible way. ."
