Film still from Special People. A man faces the camera. He holds his hands in front of him, making a square as if framing a shot.

disTHIS! returns in partnership with the Realabilities NY Disability Film Festival for the US premiere of the feature length version of "Special People" followed by a panel discussion on film & disabilities moderated by disTHIS! curator, Lawrence Carter-Long.

Participants include: Commissioner Katherine Oliver of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, Christine Bruno of the Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts,  actor/filmmaker Mat Fraser (“Every Time You Look At Me” / “Stubborn & Spite”) and filmmaker Justin Edgar ("Special People").

The disTHIS! Film Series, sponsored by the Disabilities Network of NYC, showcases quality narrative, shorts, documentary and feature films with disability themes beyond clichés.

Once a month, the disTHIS! Film Series screens movies which spotlight pride instead of pity, character over charity and direction rather than diagnosis. Our movie are funny, sexy and maybe even a little startling; always provocative, never quite what you'd expect. Or as the slogan says, disability through a whole new lens. Read what audiences and supporters say about the disTHIS! experience by going here.

All disTHIS! movies, talkback sessions and related events are open to the public.
